Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors

A traditional solution was to apply oils & grease and pack it in plastic bags. This method suffers from several disadvantages – it is time-consuming to apply & then remove the oils, making the process expensive as well. In addition cleaning these oils requires organic solvents which is not eco-friendly.

Volatile Corrosion Inhibitors (VCI) use gaseous vapors to protect the metals from corrosion. Just as the problem is caused by humidity and other corrosive gases, the protection is also provided gases.

Volatile chemical compounds impregnated into the packaging material (plastic or paper) are released over long periods of time to form an invisible protective layer on the metal surface. Unlike permanent coatings like paints, or other temporary coatings like grease, the end user can open the package and directly start using the component without any further cleaning.
